Thames Valley Police have warned horse owners in the area after animals were injured in two recent incidents. These are being investigated as criminal damage although, as horse owners know, they’re much more than just property! Here’s how to keep your Thames Valley stables secure!
Advice from Thames Valley Police
It’s not just your horses that need to be protected. Expensive tack and transport are also at risk from thieves and vandals. The police offered advice to owners which included:
- Use solid, not tubular, iron bars on tack room windows
- Secure door hinges with good quality bolts, not screws
- Lock gates with heavy duty padlocks and chains
- Reverse top hinges on gates so they can’t be lifted
- Don’t have signs showing where the tack room is
Police also advise fitting CCTV and an intruder alarm to deter criminals. Clear evidence of cameras and a quality security system can put off an opportunist thief or vandal.
